New dispute over the club's low-cost lease seems certain as the price of keeping E20 Stadium LLP out of administration is likely to be MORE public funding on top of hundreds of millions.
The Mayor of London and Newham Council will move heaven and earth to avoid the humiliation of the Hammers being locked out of their ground or made homeless.

The culture in England is playing football in stadiums with the crowd on top of the players creating an atmosphere
I have always said the advantage of Upton Park wasn’t so much the crowd being close when we were playing well and driving the team on.
It was the crowd being close when we were shit and the crowd could get stuck into the players to get them going.
Now if we go behind the distance means the ground can go very quiet and the game drifts.

Why i never thought about the OS move twice, apart from the fact that English people do like moaning.
There are plenty of CL games played in running track type stadia. WHU supporters like moaning because it's not the same as it was the last time.
Get over it, embrace the future and support the team.

When you think about it how many modern stadia are there with retractable seating?
Most stadia that are built with multiple tenants match sports that suit the same or similar playing areas.
The European teams that play in athletics stadia just put up with fans being miles away. And dream of moving to a proper stadium like Juventus & Espanyol have.

Having worked for multinationals I am absolutely mesmerised how (I have always been in global IT sales) ther is always a percentage who underachieve but manage to overachieve versus the overachievers who always match up with the underachievers.
As I write this I am thinking of two people who I consistently outsold but never got ahead of.
At least I'm not an arselicker.

I did a search on retractable seating, here in the US.
The best the search came up with was auditorium seating, church seating and temporary seating for 400.
In short, the retractable seating business is a shocker to be in, because there aren't many takers. Oddly enough, the retractable seating company due to provide their core business to the OS failed to survive long enough to reap their rewards.
They must have been absolutely desperate for that first 33% 'on contract signature' payment.

If there's anyone to blame for this mega-fuck up, it's Jowell, Coe and Livingstone. Those three cunts have an awful lot to answer for but seem to have avoided any blame whatsoever. But that's politics for you, a career where those at the top never have to carry the can for their mistakes.

I remember reading it was indeed expected to cost "only" £300,000 to changeover.
This situation could represent the only pardonable excuse for the owners being so stingy with transfer funds, that they maybe hoarding funds to fund the purchase of the stadium. Highly unlikely, but if it were true, they would not be able to say so out loud.

Someone obviously prepared some sort of report for seats that retract like I presume they have at Stade de France and moving them back and forward was meant to be like opening and closing the roof at the Millennium stadium.
Of course that would have worked if it had been designed in at the start
More money wasted that is down to Coe and Ken Livingstone

Actually, perhaps the landlords can claim they were mentally incompetent when they signed the contract.
It would be difficult to argue in favour of their competence.

Agree. I thought £300,000 sounded expensive when it was first MOOTED
But I guess that was for seating that was truly retractable which most people would think of seats moving in and out
I suppose now they effectively construct a new tier of seats each time. That said £8m does sound ridiculous
Especially when your rental income is £2.5m pa
That situation can’t last and we sure as hell aren’t going to agree to pay more.
The only solution is giving us the stadium

that's interesting, because if i had 300 grand burning a hole in my pocket, id look to spend it on relocating some seats on a temporary basis, moving them back to their original position two months later.

Sven - when it was actually going to be retractable seating, it was going to cost "minimal" amounts to shift. After the company who were going to install it went bust and it became demountable seats on scaffolding, it suddenly got ludicrously expensive!

Is this the flat roof phenomenon (flat roofs are cheaper to buy, harder to maintain)?
Perhaps cheap retractable seating costs £7m, and £8m to push in and out, and expensive retractable seating costs £9m, and £300,000 to push in and out.
